saying goodbye to 2006

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

Soon a new year will come… new hopes new promises and new perspectives. I bid goodbye to a fruitful yet turbulent 2006. It was a year full of stress, emotionally and physically. It was also a year of fulfillment in some ways. I travelled a lot, yes a thousand miles away from home. I’ve seen places and faces, I did things I never thought I would do in my life but anyhow It was such a great experience and I will not hesitate to do it again given the chance.

I had a lot of shortcomings but a lot of successes too. To recollect, I was in my homeland the Philippines three times and each time with a different goal and with God’s help I reached the finish line. My vacation with my two boys in Spain last summer strengthened my bonding with them despite all obstacles ( lost luggages, delays ..).My trip to the US  to visit my relatives was a revelation. Somehow that visit was an eyeopener for me for other alternatives. Blood is indeed heavier than water.

I am looking forward to a more progressive and active 2007 and hope to have as much willpower and energy as I had in 2006 if not even stronger.  When I was dining with my cousins in Mississippi in a chinese restaurant, I got this in my fortune cookie:

"Good timber does not grow with ease; the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees."

Indeed.

“It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinions; it is easy in solitude to live after your own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude”

Ralph Waldo Emerson
